Converging on sustainability

MEDIA RELEASE

Office and business solutions provider, Converga, are increasing their commitment to build environmental sustainability practices into businesses throughout Australia and New Zealand by contributing to rainforest restoration projects in far north Queensland’s iconic Daintree Rainforest.

In partnership with not for profit organisation Rainforest Rescue, Converga has developed an employee and customer reward program supporting the restoration of degraded rainforests in the Daintree region.

“We are committed to a successful and sustainable future for our people, our business, our environment and the community in which we operate,” said Converga Chief Executive Officer, Brian Roberts.

Rainforest Rescue has been protecting the iconic Daintree Rainforest since 1998 and with Converga’s support, will be replanting rainforest trees on cleared land to provide critical habitat and create wildlife corridors for endangered species such as the Southern Cassowary.

“Replanting previously cleared properties with rainforest trees is fundamental to the ongoing survival of the endangered Cassowary as it enables this small population of birds to move across large areas of land dispersing seeds, searching for food, nesting sites and mates.” Said Rainforest Rescue’s Daintree Conservation Project Officer, David Cook.

At two metres tall, the Cassowary is extremely important to the health of the rainforest as it is the only animal capable of eating the largest rainforest fruits and distributing their seeds over large distances.

“Having the support of businesses like Converga gives us the opportunity to make a big difference to the ongoing viability of so many animal populations that have been fragmented by land clearing over the past 100 years,” said Rainforest Rescue Corporate Partnerships Manager, Lana Nancarrow.

In addition to the sponsorship agreement, Converga has committed to sponsoring the planting of 100 trees for every Paperless Accounts Payable (PAP) solution sold. Converga’s PAP is a workflow solution that recognises both paper and electronic supplier invoices and seamlessly incorporates them into one single, instantly accessible system. By using this system, companies not only eliminate the circulation of paper invoices but reduce operating expenses by at least 25%.
